Merry Christmas!

by The Editors

Chapel in Bavaria

Dear reader,

we wish you a Merry Christmas, in the company of your family and friends!

Your CEC

by Tim Murray

I would like to take this opportunity to tell you and yours what I am not going to wish for today.

I am not going to wish you "Happy Holidays."
Nor I am going to tell you to have a "joyful festive season."

I am not going to tell you have a "Happy Winter Solstice."
Or have a "happy Saturnalia," or whatever bacchanalian festival you favour.

Instead, I am going to wish you a good old-fashion Merry Christmas.
I am going to do so not because I am a Christian or you are a Christian.
No, I am going to wish you a Merry Christmas because you are a Canadian.

I am going to wish you a Merry Christmas because this is Canada, and Christmas has been part of what made this country what it is. A country that for all its flaws was apparently good enough to attract people from all over the world. If Europeans made such a mess of things here, few would want to make Canada their home.

I am going to wish you a Merry Christmas because our two founding cultures were established by Europeans, and that contrary to legend, Europeans brought a lot of positive things to the table, including Christmas. Euro-Canadians have made enough apologies. Now it is their turn to be thanked. Marking their most important European holiday — aside from Easter — is a good way of doing that.

I am going to wish you a Merry Christmas whether you like it or not, so that you may have a taste of your own medicine — which is to proselytize on behalf of a state religion which no government had a mandate to establish, Official Multiculturalism. I will stop preaching my ethno-nationalist patriotism the day you stop shoving your globalist world view down our throats.

It is not enough that you are intent upon displacing Canada's core values by using the CBC and our educational institutions as agents of indoctrination. It is not enough that you act as Fifth Columnists in displacing and dismantling our culture and questioning our right to protect it. No, you do more than that. You use the mechanism of the state to limit our freedom of expression while conscripting our tax money to promote yours.

I am not here to celebrate "Diversity." If I do any celebrating, it is going to be a celebration of a narrow set of beliefs — the values, principles and work ethic that my European grandparents and great grandparents brought to this country. They were pioneers. They cleared land and formed a community with a cluster of other pioneering families. They built things and helped their neighbours build things. And let me give you a hint. The first thing they built as a community was not a mosque or a Buddhist temple. It was a church.

If Christmas offends you, or you think it might offend someone fresh from the airport, here is a suggestion. Take them on a holiday back to their homeland where they can share their religious or cultural traditions with you. And don't come back. Canada does not need more "citizens of the world." It needs people and politicians who put Canada First for a change.

If not, if you are not prepared to put your passport where your mouth is, stay here but leave Christmas alone. Leave Christmas plays and nativity scenes where they belong. In any public place, in schools, stores, malls and public squares.

By all means forgo Christmas if you want to. But don't tell other Canadians to move over for the rituals you practice. Find another month or another country to celebrate your rootless cosmopolitanism.
